The New Moon in Gemini was Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
The New Moon is generally a time for setting intentions and opening ourselves to new avenues of growth that begin to take shape from the time the Moon is a crescent.
The New Moon in Gemini is ruled by Mercury, who just entered Cancer.
With the Moon and Mercury in each other’s home signs, they are in mutual reception. This highlights the importance of intimacy and communication. We are called to interact, share our ideas, and broadcast our thoughts. It may be easier now to do so more authentically and honestly than usual.
Venus enters creative and bold Leo, encouraging us to be expressive in our relationships and enjoy putting our loved ones in the spotlight.
A Tricky Mercury
Mercury could bring some troubled waters into the communication realm, however. If we can put the past in the past, now might be a good time to resolve some former relationship impasses.
Mercury and Saturn may also be asking us to make some important decisions around our home or family life this month. Although the plenitude of retrogrades (explored below) may make this more of a time for contemplation rather than big action.
Mercury is out of bounds (June 6-24), emphasizing the need to think creatively about potential solutions to our problems. Mercury sextile Uranus affirms this need for an innovative approach and offers some inspiration for thinking out of the box.
We’ve entered the part of the year dominated by various Retrogrades. Right now we have retrograde Jupiter in Scorpio, Saturn in Capricorn, and Pluto in Capricorn.
Neptune will be joining them on June 18 in Pisces, and Mars in Aquarius from June 26.
After the Full Moon, we will also have Chiron and Mercury going Retrograde.
Mars on the South Node in Aquarius
Mars is approaching the South Node, a point associated with our past. As Mars journeys to his Retrograde station, we may experience some slowing down. We’re called to consider what we’ve been working on and what we really want to get out of it.
Mars on the South Node wants us to let go of ancient baggage, sometimes by working through it in difficult ways. This, along with an ongoing Mars-Uranus square that started around the last Moon on May 15, can be creating some frustrations and interpersonal conflict in our lives at this time.
Mars will eventually work his way back to Capricorn in the Fall. Then we will have a few more months of a constructive Mars. It will come with another pass of Mars on Saturn, indicating hard work, limitations, and more pacing ourselves to get to the top of our to-do piles or various mountain-like challenges.
Important Lunar Dates
The First Quarter Moon will be on June 20, 2018 in Virgo. Another Mercurial sign, the Virgo Quarter Moon will affirm the need for mental stimulation. We will start to see how the New Moon is shaping up for us at this time, just before the Summer Solstice on June 21.
The Full Moon in Capricorn will be on June 27, drawing our attention to Saturn and Pluto, who are both Retrograde in Capricorn.
